Cerebral palsy affects my ability to move and speak easily. Simple things that many people take for granted , walking, talking, expressing yourself , require creativity, patience, and determination for me. I move through the world with the help of my electric wheelchair, and I communicate using my iPad or, when technology isn't available, through hand signals and other nonverbal ways. While the world sometimes sees these differences first, I have always known that my spirit, energy, and dreams are much bigger than any obstacles. I am a dreamer, a fighter, and someone determined to live boldly on my own terms. Finding My Own Way Throughout my life, many people underestimated what I could do. They assumed that because I moved differently, I must be different — less capable, less independent, less whole. But I refused to accept those limits.
